1.1 Choose 1 idea:

It has boiled down to having to pick one final idea from the four that we originally came up with. The four that I began with were; Life/Heaven, Death/Hell, Necromancy and Fantasy. After that I was able to boil it down to two ideas which were, Necromancy and fantasy.

So the idea that I have chosen to continue and develop into my final project is Necromancy, this is because of the fact that I already know a lot about the subject, also I feel that I am able to relate it to necromancy in my own way. It will be a lot easier than fantasy, also have ideas on what to model.

So… my plan for Necromancy is to develop a diorama. This is a small scene containing models that represents the subject clearly. Within this small scene there can be a lot of things going on. Or in my case there will be a lot of object/assets you will be able to see relating to the product itself.

After already creating a mind map and mood board on this subject I have decided to go into more depth and see more of what Necromancy is about. Hoping this will give me more ideas to develop my project. So here I will be continuing some research on the subject that I have chosen.

The meaning of necromancy – The practising of communicating with the dead, they do this in order to be able to predict the future. They do this in ways of black magic, witchcraft and sorcery. When Necromancers bring things back from the dead, they control you and are able to use you as a weapon against the living.

Some of the things that I am planning to do in this project is to model an alter in which has all of the necromancers equipment scattered around. this would include things such as pots, test tubes and books. Also I will be making some weapons in which will be hanging up on the wall, because necromancers have all sorts of weapons in case someone was to ambush them or they were at war. Some of the weapons that I will model will include, Axes, Swords, Daggers and staffs. I’m planning to do this on a small diorama. Also adding some more extreme detail such as a small room with broken walls coming off and broken windows built into the walls where the alter will stand.

This is all I have come up for the moment. Hopefully in class I will further develop more ideas and hopefully make a start on all of the modelling that I am in need of doing.

1.1 Create mood boards for 2 ideas:

From the four ideas that I originally had. I have chosen 2 of my favourite ones. The two in which i have chosen are Necromancy and Fantasy. These 2 mood boards will contain picture in which I think would most fit ‘rebirth’ and perhaps contain things in which I can use for my final major project.

necromancyFor this mood board based on necromancy I have found many picture in which are significantly related to necromancy in some way. The picture in the top left, in which is the contents of an old book. It shows rituals in which the necromancers use in order to bring people back from the dead. This links to some of the other pictures in the fact that you can see the necromancer with either a book or a staff within their hands, whilst the un-dead arise from the very earth in which they were buried. Once a necromancer has awoken its undead allies, they use them as an army to destroy or kill anything that they want. The remaining pictures show necromancy tables or altars in which they use to perform sacrifices or spells. The tables are lit with candles in which give off a dim and scary atmosphere, whilst you can see the silhouettes of the skulls and potions on the wall behind. The books in which you seen on or next to the table is something that they use to learn spells, each spell casting something different. bibliography necromancyfantasyFantasy is something that you imagine, in which is classed as impossible or improbable. For example in the bottom right photo you can see that there is a picture of some islands that are floating. Everyone knows and every scientist or any human being can prove that floating islands are impossible. Some things are not necessarily impossible, such as the top middle picture of the giant house or castle. Perhaps with some of the best engineering that we have something like that is possible to build, it would take years upon years to build but it not impossible, its improbable. The picture with the unicorn is one of the most made up and imaginable animals that we have come up with, unless in the future we come up with some genetic sharing device between horses and rhinos I can safely say that it is impossible to ever see or make a unicorn. Fantasy is something in which fits rebirth is because if the fact that you can make anything you want in a fantasy world, you can make up the meaning for anything that you do make and you can choose what it does. no matter if it is impossible it is all part of your imagination.fantasy bibliography

1.1 Mind map – 4 project ideas:

For this we have had to come up with 4 different mind maps in which have different topics all in which relate to ‘rebirth’. Here are 4 ideas that I have come up with:

FantasyThe First idea that I have come up with is Fantasy. This is because you can pretty much make up anything you want because anything that is a fantasy is not real. For example i could make some sort of zombie apocalypse or something such as heaven in which is related to Resurrection in some way.

NecromancyMy second idea is Necromancy which at the moment is my favourite because of the fact that I love the theme in itself. The fact that it is all about spells and magic, how necromancers can bring people back from the dead with spells. They also carry weapons and staffs which look really cool and you can be as creative as you want when you are modelling them.life-mind-map-2Heaven/life is one of the easiest and main subjects of rebirth. This is because of the fact you can relate it to the bible and other religions in the fact that you are reborn, weather you come back as a plant or an animal. IT can be hard to model things to be able to represent life.death-mind-map-2Lastly we have Death/hell this is about the after life and crusifiction. Souls spirits making your way back into the world by haunting other people.

Progress Review:

Have I completed the tasks that I have set for myself?

I completed my first task in which was to make the diorama basis and put all of the assets that I have together so that it looks nice, also this helps me see what I can do next in order to improve my project. After that i set the task of creating a wooden pin in which would hang the weapons up on the wall so that they are not just floating there. I ended up making the wooden pins but did not have enough time to be able to unwrap them and texture them.

Have you completed them to a good standard?

Personally I think that I have completed them to a good standard because I have made it look really neat and tidy and have put extra effort into the wooden pins by making them have curved edges so that they look a lot nicer after they have been fully finished.

Can you improve anything?

The only thing that I can think to improve on is the smaller assets and the pillars, by this I mean adding smoothing groups to it so when they are not selected it will look better and you can clearly see the edges of the object.

Are you on target to complete your project on time?

Yes I am because of the holidays coming up it will allow me to catch up with the work in which I have not yet completed. After the holidays I will only have the final project left to do making it easier on me and will end up being more organised.

3.1 Test pieces, Ideas generation.

For some of my test pieces I have decided to make some cool looking weapons and staffs in which fall behind the topic of necromancy. I have ended up making 2 different weapons, here I am going to find and research different weapons I am hoping to make.

The first weapon that I would like to make would be a dagger or a knife, bearing in mind we have made a knife in the  past. I am going to reuse the previous knife because it fits with what I am doing and there is no point remaking the knife when I can reuse what I already have.

A weapon that I am going to create and not reuse is going to be a sword. I am going to try and find a normal looking sword and alter it in order to make it my own.

dragon sword 2This picture shows something in which I want to include on my sword. As you can see, there is a dragon on the bottom of the handle, this looks really cool and I am going to try and integrate a dragon with the sword in some way. Another thing that I like about this sword is that it has spikes on the blade. This makes the sword look less ‘dull’. Personally it makes it look like it is more modern .dragon swordOn this sword again I really like the how the dragon has been make to look like the handle of the sword. The sword in general interests me in the fact that the blade decreases in size the further you get from the handle. The trouble I have with a sword  like this is trying to model all of the black interchanges on the sword. (where the blade changes size and shape.)

Hopefully using these two references, I can come up with some sketches in which I can use to base my sword off of.

sketch sword 1sketch sword 2swordHere is what I have crated as one of my test pieces, using the two reference images I was able to come up with some ideas in which I have sketches down. By explaining what I have done I have managed to come up with this sword. I added the jagged blade with the sharp spikes in between to make it look as dangerous as possible. As you should know necromancers are not people you wan to mess with, if they are not using spells or magic they are more than capable of using a sword as a deadly weapon.

The next test piece that I had come up with was an axe, I found a picture in a Blizzard inc. book, its a dragon themed axe in which was a piece of concept art created by the lead artist.

Here is the axe that I had found in the book. I really liked the dragon theme and the way the axe looks. So I attempted to model the axe. Because of necromancers ability to use weapons, I decided to make a series of weapons as a showcase for my models, after already creating a sword it seemed fitting to create an axe.

I don’t have any sketches of  this axe due to the fact that this picture is illistarted how I would want to craft that axe. I will change the colours and it will end up looking slightly different because it is really hard to model the dragon because of its hard shape.

dragon axe

Here is the axe I have created as one of my test pieces it was really hard to model and took a lot of time to create each part of the axe. I will put this in a cabinet in the diorama with any other weapons that I create, I will use this in my final major project because it looks really cool and its to a high standard.

Lastly as one of my test pieces I created a staff, something that a necromancer holds in one hand to cast spells. It makes them strong and powerful.

picture 2 – http://forums2.battleon.com/f/tm.asp?m=20029243&mpage=1&key=&#20029243

These staffs include the dragon theme just like the sword and the axe, personally of it was to owned by a necromancer it would look cool and scary at the same time. I think these axes look good in the fact that they have cool patterns and designs, makes them loos really cool. The first picture shows one where the handle turns into scales from a dragon, I saw this was good because I created the same design on my axe. The second picture shows again a really cool design, but all of the extra parts sticking out on the handle would be hard to model.

Here are some of the design/sketches that I have come up with:

So this is what I plan to model, The first design is slightly more complicated in the fact that it has wood going around the spine of the staff. the second designis really simple and I have just added some spikes to the neck of the staff, suits the theme more and makes to look better.staff dragonHere is what I have come up with for my final test piece. It is a staff in which has included a dragon theme. It fits well with my other test pieces because they all have the same theme. I used the dragon head from the axe because it makes the staff look really cool and it would be too time consuming attempting to re model the axe.

1.1 Project Proposal:

Here is my project proposal. I Review what I have done out of my work so far and how I am planning to move forward in the project. After that you move on to the project concept where I show pieces of my work and give an example of some of the pieces of work that I wish to produce. And at the end it contains a bibliography containing a link to the picture that I used in my proposal. And then last but not least on the bottom, there is action plan and time table that I have had to try and stick to during the interim deadlines.

Project Management Summery:

During this project I have been having to keep track of all of the work that I have been doing. Earlier on during our FMP we created a calendar in which contained dates that showed when we should have kept track of our work and what the different things we had to complete were. The way in which I have planned my work was through completing what was on the class power points each lesson.

My work organisation had been good in the fact that I have done all of the pieces of work, some of which are not all complete. The reason for not all my work being complete is down to going out or working in my spare time. Ways in which i can overcome this includes doing my work and completing it in class. Or not going out until my work is done.

One of the ways that I plan to catch up with my work includes by doing my work on my days off which are, Tuesday and Thursday. Also by using the library at lunch, or just coming in earlier in the morning.
